Travel along the coastline of the Gulf of Riga
A fascinating, informative and nostalgic full-day trip, including the filming locations of “The Long Road in the Dunes”, a 1981 famous Soviet Latvian seven-part TV melodrama, directed by Aloizs Brenčs. It is a love story of Artūrs Banga, the son of a fisherman, and Marta Ozola, who carried their feelings through all the difficulties and sorrows of the military and post-WWII years. The original series was shot in Latvian by the Riga Film Studio.
We invite you to travel along the coastline of the Gulf of Riga to the Lapmežciems village:
- Get acquainted with the life of Latvian fishermen in the unique “Fishermen’s Museum”, get a mini-course on preparing fish for hot smoking and walk in the footsteps of Marta – the main character of the film “Long Road in the Dunes”.
- Visit the fishing village of Engure, where you’ll see the site of the “Sargasso Sea” where “all the eels of the world are born”. They say that eels have a genetic code and always return to the Engure from the Sargasso Sea… There you can also enjoy a walk along the manicured coastline, swim in the bay and take some stunning shots of the Engure coastline! Right on the shore at the picnic tables, enjoy gourmet snacks and drinks that we will prepare for you in a special picnic basket.
